MY PAINTINGS
Drawing and painting have always been a joyful part of my life. Nature, my own garden, patterns, and everyday objects all inspire my compositions.
I always travel with a sketchbook to capture a detail or composition in nature that will help to spark my next painting. The Wisconsin landscape and native wildflowers are constant inspiration.
My watercolor and acrylic paintings use bold colors to depict flowers, patterns in fabrics and decorative objects, with the inclusion of landscape as a postcard, wall pattern, or a window view within the composition.
I’m intrigued with the idea of merging the interior/exterior spaces - I think of them as passages that blend the space between the two.
My hope is that the viewer is delighted and uplifted by my use of color and comes away with an appreciation of the beauty - both great and small - that surrounds
us everyday.
MY ILLUSTRATIONS
I have always been interested in drawing and loved picture books as a child.
The classic illustrations by Ludwig Bemelmans (Madeline), Sir John Tenniel (Alice's Adventures In Wonderland),
and Frederick Siebel (Amelia Bedelia) were and still are, my favorites.
Historic locations/architecture and vintage objects are my delight and inspiration as I feel they have timeless beauty and charm. I incorporate these influences in my illustrations. I create a mixed media painting and may finish some details digitally.
